This year’s run from Great Ashfield was a joint venture with the Veteran-Cycle Club, due to a mix up with the bookings! Nethertheless, the weather was mild with sunshine behind the broken cloud making a pleasant day. Mark Daniels (Dalek Scooter) and I (Hercules Corvette) arrived at the hall for 9:30 to be greeted by a smiling David Evans (Puch MS50D) and Andrew Pattle (James Autocycle) on signing and tea duties; outside the hall Carl Harper (Green Goddess Land Rover) was trying his best to sell a couple of old push bikes with not much success!
The run commenced at 11:00 with Jim Stuttard (Honda Novio) leading the pack, followed by Paul Efreme (Mobylette AV89) and Paul Daniels (Honda CY80). First casualties of the day were Joe Lee’s KTM Hobby with dirty fuel issues and Ken Howard’s Power Pak mudguard falling off—bungee cord to the rescue! Everybody arrived en masse at Fair Green near Diss, to be greeted by the V-CC boys and lady, also Team Merrin’s trio of Raleighs: Dave Merrin (Raleigh RM6), Simon Merrin (Raleigh RM9), and Dave’s son (Raleigh Wisp) riding shotgun!
Fish and chips on the green was a popular choice for lunch, washed down by a swift pint at The Cock Inn. Suitably refreshed, the return leg was a much a faster pace, with the Daniels brothers going head to head with Paul being burnt off in a trail of blue haze by Mark! Team Wikner following up the rear, Martin Wikner (Puch Maxi) Sharon Wikner (Honda PC50) and Carl Olley (Honda SS50) all going very well. Quote of the day goes to Paul Daniels who said ‘You must have billiard balls for buttocks to ride that thing’ (Hercules Corvette)!
