This year, the Periwinkle Run had its higs and lows and, unfortunately, Danny’s van deciced to malfunction in the way of the clutch and had to be drived the last 20 miles to Cottered in second gear at 20mph. Although Danny and Andrew set up the spares on the tables, they had to leave before the end of the run as the breakdown vehicle arrived to take them back to Bucklesham.
A lovely warm climate and later a beautiful day saw the riders leave Cottered Village Hall, ably led around the route by David Osbourn. We wandered around some enviably pretty countryside and lanes, where we stopped for lunch and liquid refreshments at The Three Tuns in Great Hormead. Everyone had a good chinwag and enjoyed the air, garden, and beautiful sunshine—the less venturous stayed in the pub.
All was well until we decided to leave the pub car park, when George’s less that trusty Greeves decided it had done enough for one day and refused to start (suspected oiled-up plugs). The lazy Greeves was put on the pick-up yrailer and given a lift back to Cottered.
We had kind gestures as well, mainly the generosity of the late Harvey Spencer, whose wife Jill donated £10 on behalf of Harvey—Thank you Jill and Harvey. We also thank Jim, who donated several raffle prizes.
The tea ladies also donated raffle prizes and made & paid for the ingredients for the lovely cakes, tea, and coffee. Thank you ladies. These gestures help us survive and are gratefully appreciated.
