Mick Scott has sent us these photos of autocyclea and cyclemotors—they were taked at an ‘Oldtimer’ event in Switzerland in 2011.
A bicycle powered by a Mosquito cyclemotor. We’re not sure what the bicycle is; it appears to be a period cycle that’s been upgraded with a lot of modern components. Note the ribbed forks & chainstays, and the Sturmey-Archer top-tube gear lever. The front fork also has a brazed-on fitting for a hub brake, though a modern calliper brake is fitted now.
The NSU Quick was more-or-less equivalent to Britain’s autocycles: 98cc with pedals. The Quick was introduced in 1936 and produced until World War two. After the war, Quicks were put back into production until the 50cc Quickly moped replaced them in 1953. Ourmguess is that this is a post-war example.
Another autocycle-style machine, the Victoria V99 Fix was also made on either side of World War Two. This example dates from around 1950.
