This run, organised by the North Herts Non-Conformist cycle-motor group under the auspices of the VMCC, was well attended by VMCC, EACC and NACC members. Over twenty riders signed on, both local and others from Norfolk, Essex, Lincolnshire, Buckinghamshire and Kent.
The route of some twenty-six miles was set in the unspoilt countryside of east Hertfordshire. The machinery was the usual assortment of cycle-motors, mopeds and others including an unrestored 1956 New Hudson and a pristine Puch MS50D.
There were no notable incidents to riders or machines and only a self closing petrol tap, a loose fuel cap and loose toolbox was about as bad as things developed. Surprisingly, with respect to the amount of surface gravel, and potholes disguised as puddles there were no punctures. The hilly terrain did not defeat the smallest of cycle-motors, but the effort of the day probably went to the two-up NSU Quickly.
The complexities of the European weather pattern threatened to dump half of the Atlantic Ocean upon the venue, thankfully this forecast did not materialise. Although there is no doubt that the rain would have been welcome in the beautiful spring countryside we passed through.
Thanks go to Mandy at the Rising Sun at Hall's Green and Alan at the Lordship Arms at Bennington for their hospitality. And thanks to all the riders, and pillion passenger for their support.
